Did installation modify my /boot ?

Whatever messages you are seeing most likely came from the Kubuntu
packager/installer routines, not from anything busybox is doing. You
would be better off to post your question to the appropriate Kubuntu
forums. But if I had to guess, I would say your system should still
boot just like it always has.
