Glad you found the culprit.

It reminds me, though, that I posted a patch series for mdev almost a
year ago [1] that apparently was never picked up. It improves the
reliability in overloaded cases and also adds the ability to log to
syslog and reload with SIGHUP.

Denys, any chance to merge them?
