Hi

I'm trying to enable ifplugd support on an embedded device running linux 3.1.5 with a usb-to-ethernet device (SMSX75xx), however I can't seem to get it to work properly.

Here's some sample output, eth0 already configured with ifup:
------------------------
\> ifplugd -sni eth0
ifplugd(eth0): started: BusyBox v1.21.1 (2014-02-20 15:46:06 CET)
ifplugd(eth0): upping interface
ifplugd(eth0): using SIOCETHTOOL detection mode
ifplugd(eth0): link is down

** cable plugged/unplugged X-times here **

ifplugd(eth0): exiting
------------------------

Here's some sample output, eth0 not configured:
------------------------
\> ifplugd -sni eth0
ifplugd(eth0): started: BusyBox v1.21.1 (2014-02-20 15:46:06 CET)
ifplugd(eth0): using SIOCETHTOOL detection mode
ifplugd(eth0): link is down

** cable plugged/unplugged X-times here **

ifplugd(eth0): exiting
------------------------

It doesn't matter whether the cable is plugged or not when I start ifplugd or whether I plug or unplug it after it's running, there is no change in link status at all.

Manual calls to ifup/down works as expected, no issues there (network traffic is ok).

Here's my config from /etc/network/interfaces:
----------------------
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface eth0 inet dhcp
----------------------

The network adapter is a usb-to-ethernet" device using the driver "smsc75xx", here's the line from dmesg:
[ 6.300872] smsc75xx 1-1.3:1.0: eth0: register 'smsc75xx' at usb-ehci-omap.0-1.3, smsc75xx USB 2.0 Gigabit Ethernet, f2:2b:17:60:73:28

Do you see what I'm doing wrong or perhaps you can point me in the right direction?
Are there any known issues with usb-ethernet adapters?

Also, the "-k" option (kill running daemon) to ifplugd seems to be broken. If given as an argument it returns with the error:
"ifplugd: invalid option -- 'k' " and then shows the list of available options (which includes the k-option!)

Best regards
/Anders

Exiting.
