Can mdev replace udev in an ordinary linux distro?

IMHO mdev can replace udev. The questions that arise will be (incomplete
list):

- Speed (with long mdev.conf and full dynamic system the startup may get
slow)

- Update of mdev.conf for separate distro packages (mdev currently lacks
an /etc/mdev.d feature ... may be this could be thrown in)

- I don't know udev details, but mdev scripting may be different, so you
need to replace all udev scripts to work with mdev (lot of work)

- mdev lacks communication and integration with packages like some do
with udev (like Xorg) ... but I don't like that type of integration at
all (most packages can be compiled without udev integration and work
perfectly without that integration if dev files/scripts get setup correctly)
