touch refuses to accept -d option

I need to git a virgin copy then, to sit alongside my edited one for
comparison.

Maybe I WILL check the virgin copy into our CVS, if I'm going to do any
worthwhile amount of this.

I need to think about how well that will work given the number of other
people making changes
