I usually update defconfig after a while, when a few more
new options accumulate. I do it at least once, just before
a release, but sometimes more often.

Do you use svn (now git) tree directly and need "make defconfig"
to work in it? You may use "yes '' | make oldconfig"
to automatically accept default answers in this case.
