It is also confusing to user: OF COURSE there is no GZ file, it's a RPM...

It says the truth - it doesn't see expected gzip signature inside RPM file.
Current svn is updated to handle bz2 data too:
+config FEATURE_RPM_BZ2
+ bool "Enable handling of rpms with bzip2-compressed data inside"
+ default n
+ depends on RPM
+ help
+ Enable handling of rpms with bzip2-compressed data inside.
Seems to work for me. Nikolay plase test if you can.
