I more commonly refer to it as "fascist logging".
Recording everything the user types. Good for spying
on a user. In the best of worlds, it's a method of
last resort for troubleshooting. In other cases,
it's a horrible and possibly illegal invasion of
privacy. Your call.
In the case of a shell, it's indistinguishable from a
non-volatile history buffer, like Bash's $HISTFILE.
