Hi all,
it is regarding the issue 5. Compilation problem .
now i m able to compile the busybox source properly. really i don't
know
what went wrong in the morning. i suspect this problem might be due
to miss-editing
of some config files in the source.I m really sorry for reporting
this.
what i did now i freshly extracted the downloaded source and
selected required commands
form "make menuconfig" and simply compiled , it compiled properly.
regards,
ravi

Hi,
I changed busybox from 0.60.3 to 1.0-pre8. Now the hostname prompt is
missing.
Trying:
> PS1='\h$ '
> export PS1
just displays "\h$" as prompt
Is there a config value I missed for ash?

Hi,
I'm not 100% sure if this is the right forum to ask
this question, so if it is not I apologise in advance.
I have an embedded linux system that is booting from
compact flash, where the file system is mounted read
write. Everything is OK if the user shuts down the box
in an orderly fashion, but if they just hit the off
switch ( which they are likely to do ) file corruption
seems to ensue.
So to get around this I would like to mount the
compact flash read only and then use ramdisk(s) to
hold the stuff that needs to be read write. At the
moment my system is :
1, filsesystem mounted ro.
2, ramdisks created for /dev /tmp /var /etc and
contents of filesystem copied to these 4 ramdisks.
These ramdisks are mounted over ro directories /dev
/tmp /var /etc.
This seems to work but I think it's a bit messy. What
I would really like to do is create one ramdisk, copy
/dev /etc/ /tmp /var across to that ram disk and then
mount it at the " / " directory. But this doesn't seem
to work. It seems you can't mount other directories
over " / ", you can only mount to a sub directory (
anyone know if this is true or not ? )
So my question to the group is :
does anyone know how to mount one ramdisk having /dev
/etc /tmp /var in it, and all other dirs are read only
from thr compact flash ?
Is there any other way of doing this ?
Any help appreciated.
TIA
Wayne

I normally do a:
/bin/hostname `cat /etc/HOSTNAME | cut -f1 -d .`
somewhere in my boot scripts.
Note that /bin/hostname, in BusyBox 1.0-pre8, is still simple
and does not support the aliases like dnsdomainname et al.,
so you can not set the domain separately for use by say,
/etc/issue /o./l name expansion.

I hate to tell you that we get the same corruption and it
does not seem to relate to BusyBox (tried w and w/o bb), but
to the H/W. It makes no diff if the sys is r/o. The cflash
electronics seem to glitch into the flash and not even an fsck
can fix it. Try it, pull the plug when during shutdown Linux
has just placed the rootfs to r/o. Sometimes we crashit just
the same!

Hello,
this is my first post to the list, so firstly I just want to say thank
you for your effort! I'm now using busybox to build custom firmware for Asus
WL-500b/g wireless routers
http://www.asus.com/products/communication/wireless/wl-500g/overview.htm
(similar to linksys wrt54g, but with usb&lpt port). Asus violates GPL and
have not published GPLed sources at the moment.
Attached please find 2 patches. The first one adds "--stdio" option to
passwd. The patch iteself in only 10 lines of code, other are just "if else"
reformating. And the later patch adds an -l option to syslogd to filter
localally logged messages based on their priority. This is very usefull on
the embedded platform and the only way to filter out annoying debug
messages.
Thanks,
Oleg.

Hi,
and my one cent. The QM_MODULES releated modutils are broken in
1.00-pre8: lsmod, insmod does not work at least for mips. 1.00-pre7 works
fine. And I'm also using uclibc. Have not figured out what exactly
happens...

Oleg.

If it is the problem I'm thinking of, it is due to the change in
libbb/module_syscalls.c and the fact that uClibc's syscall() function
is broken for number of args > 4 (?). There's a workaround in
current busybox cvs.

Yes.
Make *one* ramdisk, or better yet, tmpfs, and mount it
on, say, /.volatile.
/dev /etc /tmp /var should be symlinked to
/.volatile/etc etc

Hi all,
I'm having a problem starting apps that are not part of BB. Whenever I
try to start such an app I only get the message 'Illegal instruction'
and as returncode I get 132.
I'm using BB 1.0 pre 8.
Has anyone any ideas?

The difference is in the module_syscalls.c.
Thanks,

Actually, I just checked in an extensive rewrite of busybox route. I'd
appreciate it if you gave it a spin.
