[BusyBox] make install question

I am new to busybox.  looks real nice.  I am trying to build an embedded
system.  My question is how do I redirect the output of the make install to
a prefixed target directory?  I dont want to overwrite my current system,
and its not clear to me how to target a different partition.    I have read
through the README, the Config.h, and the Makefile, and answered my other
questions, but this one is not clear.  I need to set PREFIX?
