[BusyBox] serial console problem

I'm running busybox 0.60.2, trying to set up a system with serial
console. LILO and the kernel are both working fine on /dev/ttyS0,
but after busybox init starts, it just prints:
serial console detected. Disabling virtual terminals.
init started: BusyBox v.0.60.2 (2002.01.09-05:21+0000) multi-call binary
No more tasks for init -- sleeping forever.
My inittab looks like:
ttyS0::sysinit:/sbin/rcS
ttyS0::respawn:/bin/sh -i
ttyS0::ctrlaltdel:/sbin/reboot
ttyS0::ctrlaltdel:/bin/umount -a
ttyS0::ctrlaltdel:/bin/sync
ttyS0::ctrlaltdel:/bin/killall -w
Why doesn't this work?
