I would also suggest one of the "small" Linux distributions. I have run 
Debian on a 486DX2/66 with 8MB RAM and a 240MB HardDisk with DHCP, BIND 
and an IRC-Bouncer for almost 2 years with no noticable speed problems 
and this unit did not even have a CD-ROM ;)
