Confirmed on StrongARM linux-2.4.2 with glibc-2.1.2, starting from
busybox init.

I don't see it on i386 linux-2.0.36 with glibc-2.0.7, simply invoking
busybox sh from an xterm/bash.

Something strange is happening here, but I'm not ready to blame lash yet.
