Why is this?  tinylogin, for instance, contains the following:

	/* Drop permissions if possible (in case we are setuid root) */
	if (applet->need_suid != TRUE) {
		setuid(getuid());
		setgid(getgid());
	}

You're saying that this doesn't work?
