I vote to hold off one release, as long as releases come quickly.
This version already has _lots_ of changes.

I would also like to hold the option open of re-merging the two
packages.  The permissions thing is not such a big deal on an
embedded system; those systems that actually _have_ non-root users
would probably not need to give those users access to ping.
