hmm, thinking a little more, maybe adding 10MB of pdfs to the source repo 
isn't a good thing as they'll always be in the history of the repo, and that 
is only like 22MB today.  so i'll merge the plain text files and add a file 
pointing people to the website for additional detailed specs.
