Configure and build problems with revision 14656

As a test to see if I could build one of the newer snapshot revisions, I
checked out rev 14656. I could not configure it since the source is missing
the 'conf' binary that is usually installed in the extra/config directory.
Therefore, I copied 'conf' from 0.9.28 version into the revision version,
and this helped me get past the configure issue, but the build stops at the
beginning of building ldso complaining of no rule to make target. I pasted
the error below:

make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/james/gxlinux-637/gxlinux/linux'
make -C uClibc ARCH=arm CROSS=arm-linux-
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/james/gxlinux-637/gxlinux/uClibc'
make[1]: *** No rule to make target `|', needed by `ldso/ldso/ldso.oS'.
Stop.
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/james/gxlinux-637/gxlinux/uClibc'
make: *** [libc] Error 2

Before I spend a lot of time chasing errors, am I missing a procedure / step
that would help me get on track?
