Alpha build

I'm just trying uclibc for the first time (or rather have been for
several days) without much luck. I want to build a small alpha system, but
no matter how I try to configure it, the build always fails. I've tried
changing nothing except choosing alpha, tried various of the gcc versions,
both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels (although I want 2.6) and various bin-utils,
threads, including none, etc., but it always stops with errors at some
point. I do a make clean and start over but it always pukes, and not at the
same point, although threads seems to be a problem unless I choose "none".
Just for kicks, I tried a generic i386 build, but that failed as well.
If it matters, I'm running this on Debian 3.1 with a 2.6.15 kernel. I've
looked thru the docs but don't see anything really relevant. Any clues?
