Status of locale/gettext/libintl support

Hello,

what is the current status of locale/gettext/libintl support in uClibc?

I found a mail from May 2003 on this list from Manuel Novoa to expect a 
"major update of locale support sometime around the end of June." [2003].

When I look at the current Changelog of uClibc 0.9.28 I see, that locale support 
is somewhat disabled.

So, if I want locale support for the apps, I have to use "external" gettext,
right?
