What's wrmu?

I know timesys got gdbserver building natively under arm and mips, but I 
vaguely recall that that they had to hit it with a large hammer in several 
places until the protocol it spoke stopped being gibberish.  (Some kind of 
endianness or word size issue?  I forget...)
