[uClibc] Configuring for cross compilation

I downloaded the source from cvs, and attempted a compilation, but
failed miserably as it tried to compile powerpc assembly with the x86
assembler.

So, in a nutshell, how do I make a cross compilation uclibc toolchain?
My architecture is powerpc, but my host is x86.  (So, I need to build a
toolchain that will run on x86, and compile ppc binaries, and a uclibc
that's native ppc)

I've already got MontaVista cross compilation tools, but if I read the
FAQ right, they won't be used . . .
