[uClibc] inittab fails to read hostname file

[erythros]

the command in my inittab:

null::sysinit:/bin/hostname -F /etc/hostname

fails. i know i can just change to reflect the name

null::sysinit:/bin/hostname name

but this defeats the pupose of having a hostname file...
what am i doing wrong?
