i found out that something was wrong with were i was putting the root
filesystem on the disk. maybe i have a bad disk.
anyhow, i was able to boot into it finnally. now i just need to get my
network configered properly, i have an error (actually two) when the network
script starts i get an error that two files/directories cannot be found:
if-pre-up.d and if-up.d

any ideas?

i get this from the boot/root disk i made and the dualbooted version on my
second harddrive.

does anyone happen to have a minimalist kernel config file for ide hd,
floppy, vga, and inet? want to compare it with mine to see if i've done it
right. though it does seem to be working...
