According yo the gcc-3.3 manual [1], the valid -march= switches are:
armv2, armv2a, armv3, armv3m, armv4, armv4t, armv5, armv5t, armv5te

A quick workaround is to use GENERIC_ARM as target processor type. The
generated code will run on a xscale...
