If size matters a lot, you can use "net-cat" scripts.
For a few-Kb shell scripts + 10Kb exec, you get a reasonnable
performance/size ratio.
As a proof-of-concept, I've the client side; feel free to ask me
(directly, it may be out-of-topic here?).
Not too sure about the server side, which is left as a nice
hacking exercice..
