zcat: failure to correctly extract files

May be you need to correctly name your gzipped files with the
extension .gz so zcat can detect that right. Auto detection of
compressed files is a nice feature, but may lead to unexpected
behavior :( ... see if this matches on your system then report
again (looks like it needs some more fixing).
