strange menuconfig issue

I use BusyBox with Buildroot and have had a stable BusyBox config for
some time using 1.15.1. Today I decided to look it over to see if I
might need to add some additional features. I downloaded the BusyBox
release, unpacked it and ran menuconfig. For some reason the curses
interface is not allowing me to exit submenus and in fact is displaying
only part of those submenus (re: not from the top of the menu but from
the middle). The behavior is not consistent - sometimes I can exit but
once it starts preventing my exit of submenus then I can never continue
further down the menus. Weird. Never seen anything like this.

I've also tried 1.16.1 and 1.18.2. Same thing.

Weirdest part is that both the kernel menuconfig and buildroot
menuconfig do not have this problem. So I'm not sure its a curses
version issue on my box. I'm running Fedora 14 using gnome-terminal.
Same thing happens under xterm. There don't appear to be any ncurses
updates available. Running sh first (to remove my bash environment)
doesn't help.

I'm stumped. Any suggestions? The only other thing I can think to do
is setup a VM with an older version of Fedora and see if that changes
anything. The last time I can remember working on the BusyBox config
was when I was using Fedora 11 (skipped 12/13). So maybe its a distro
release issue.
