I'd agree static shouldn't be necessary.  My input was that a link of
1.19.3 against eglibc (2.12) worked fine on an ARM system.  We always use
shared/dynamic linked librarys.

Perhaps the libc.so on your target system is out of step with the version
you are compiling against ?
