The quotes are language sensitiv this is obvious when you see the uotput of
LANG=de_DE
„/dev/cdrom“ -> „sr0“

and LANG=C
`/dev/cdrom' -> `sr0'

What ever your language set defines as Start/End quotation mark is used.
It has nothing todo with fonts (to some extend).
