Replying to this old post here: Can someone please really consider
applying that to trunk? It's a great addon, I just switched from using
splashy (from Debian) in userspace to fbsplash and missed the text
feature, applied this patch and everything works perfect.

I don't need the animations or graphics stuff, but simple text display
is very well needed down here.

If there would be a way to kill fbsplash (f.ex. if system hangs and
text gets displayed in the background and I want to see this text)
with Escape or anything like that, that would really make my day.

Oh and is it possible for fbsplash to always overwrite the text written
on the console, like splashy does? F.ex. if one of my init scripts
writes out text like "Done" or the like, it gets written over the
fbsplash image. Using splashy, the image was like one layer above the
console text...
