To set time zone

Hi,
    Iam using busybox with uClibc
when trying to set the timezone by doing the following:
    ln -sf /usr/share/zoneinfo/Africa/Cairo /etc/localtime.
    /etc/timezone has Africa/Cairo

But the date command doesnt reflect the changes..it always shows zone in
UTC.
when executing echo CST6CDT >/etc/TZ the zone gets changed with CST.
how do i reflect the zone changes with the linking of
/usr/share/zoneinfo instead of manually typing CST6CDT to /etc/TZ

Regards,
Vinod
