The debugging output looked the same for both variants but it was still
unable to log every second try because I did always alternate the
command line arguments.
Starting the same command three times in a row, it worked two times out
of three tries which lead me to the conclusion that something else must
have been wrong and so I investigated further just to find out that our
DNS server guys have messed up the A record for my new logserver and it
had 2 IP addresses in the forward lookup zone, thus making DNS round
robin which explains why it did only work every second try :-/
It's all sorted now and works as expected, sorry for the noise.
