gettext needs a rewrite

maybe, but how is that relevant to busybox ?  gettext is a development 
tool ... when would you actually execute it at runtime on a target system ?

busybox is for the core runtime utilities, it isnt for integrating the things 
on your development host as your development host is supposed to be large and 
bloated and contain everything standard that developing packages requires
