possibly, but i was just following rob landley's suggestion to at
least do *that* much of a comparison to see if there were any obvious
side effects.  if anyone else wants to do a much more stringent test,
by all means, feel free.

i'm assuming that, if there really is an issue with this patch, it
will be rejected.
