I've been testing by setting DEV_PATH (in mdev.c) to /tmp/dev, and
/proc/sys/kernel/hotplug to /tmp/mdev_wrapper

/tmp/mdev_wrapper:
#!/bin/bash
/path/to/busybox mdev $*

Then, constantly plugging and unplugging a USB key to create and destroy
the device nodes in /tmp/dev. Messes up my real system a lot less :)
