Sorry for not putting my reply bellow the original text, i'm typing on my PDA's crippled mail client....

The ifupdown applet is a high level interface to ifconfig/route or iproute (either bb applets or 'full blown' ip/ifconfig/route), ppp, dhcp and a few other network related programs. It's not equivalent to any other applets, but provides a common interface, extendable with if-up/down scripts, for network configuration.

ok, no problem, i was just asking.  OTOH, is its functionality exactly
equivalent to one or more of the other applets?  that way, maybe we
can just combine a few things.
