should httpd support a "STANDALONE" configuration option?

  i'm looking at cleaning a lot of crud out of httpd.c, and that code
contains the hard-coded option "HTTPD_STANDALONE", which is only
configurable through editing the source.

  should that option be retained and made selectable through
menuconfig?  or should it be tossed (at least for now) with the option
of someone re-instating it down the road properly if they're
interested?

p.s.  there's a whole lot of extraneous junk at the top of httpd.c
that can certainly be deleted.
