A kernel oops is almost never going to be busybox's fault.  No matter what we 
do, the kernel should never oops.  (With the possible exception of us really 
really really screwing up kernel module loading, which doesn't sound like the 
case here.)

That's a pretty old kernel, yes.  Try at least 2.6.11.

Not with a kernel oops.  You probably want to take the oops output to the 
linux kernel mailing list.  (But only after trying 2.6.11.  It might also be 
X, but probably only the kernel guys could tell you that.)
