There are several other SMTP daemons that are generally considered
"better" than sendmail. I use exim because I run a bunch of Debian
machines and that is the default MTA (used to be smail). Others I've heard
of are postfix and qmail and there are probably others.

Choice of MTA seems to be akin to choice of editor, there is a lot of
'religion' in the arguments but for ease of configuration, sendmail is
probably way down the list.
