[BusyBox] "NFS: mount program didn't pass remote address!"

just recently, after having build a new busybox from scratch, i began to
get the following error message when trying to manually NFS mount from
the server:

# mount -t nfs 10.0.0.1:/exports/extras /mnt
nfs warning: mount version older than kernel
NFS: mount program didn't pass remote address!
mount: Mounting 10.0.0.1:/exports/extras on /mnt failed: Invalid argument

i'm not sure what to make of this, i've never seen this message before,
and it's curious since the entire root filesystem on the client system is
already mounted via NFS so, certainly, NFS works to *that* extent.
ping works both ways, the standard "showmount" on the server shows
that the directory is being exported properly, etc.

does anyone recognize this from within a busybox context?
thanks.
