[BusyBox] make on sparc

I am trying to make busybox on a sparc and receive the following error:

> make busybox
make: Unknown modifier '%'

"Makefile", line 23: Need an operator
"Makefile", line 133: Missing dependency operator
"Makefile", line 135: Need an operator
"Makefile", line 136: Missing dependency operator
"Makefile", line 136: Missing dependency operator
...and on and on...

I haven't modified anything in Config.h or Makefile.  What am I missing
here?
