You're a bit confused.  The Hurd was "designed" in 1990.  Linux came a year
later.  It doesn't matter what they are based on, the Hurd is based on
something from 1983.  Linux is not a new implementation of Unix.  It's an
operating system based upon Unix concepts.  Are you able to discern the
difference?

No.  He said MOST new OS's define PATH_MAX.  Nowhere did he state that he
was unware of an OS that didn't.  For whatever reason you saw that as a
reason to promote the Hurd, even though the Hurd has nothing to do with
the conversation, which is workarounds for broken GCC implementations.  In
this thread, there is nothing that can be learned from talking about what
the Hurd does or does not do.

I think I've veered too off-topic now, I'll shut up.
