[BusyBox] question about inittab

i just have a quick question about inittab. in the documentation it describes
the default inittab (i.e. if no inittab exists and BB_FEATURE_USE_INITTAB is
defined) as having the following lines:

::askfirst:/bin/sh
tty2::askfirst:/bin/sh
tty3::askfirst:/bin/sh
tty4::askfirst:/bin/sh

but then later, as as example of a "create-your-own" inittab, the docs say:

::askfirst:-/bin/sh
tty2::askfirst:-/bin/sh
tty3::askfirst:-/bin/sh
tty4::askfirst:-/bin/sh

i was just curious about what the dashes are doing.

best regards,
