ok -- I've applied your patch and it still seems to work
for other arches, so I'm committing it now.

Well, the thanks for that bit of work should be directed to 
Quinn Jensen <jensenq at lineo.com> who actually did the port.
All I did was bug him till he get it done.  :-)
