Summary: modprobe won't use ' * ' symbols modules.alias
Description:
modprobe ignores '*' symbols in alias name
for examples:
device name: pci:v000010ECd00008139sv000011F6sd00008139bc02sc00i00
alias in modprobe completely ignores /lib/modules/whatever/modules.alias:
alias pci:v000010ECd00008139sv*sd*bc*sc*i* 8139too
result: 8139too don't load as
pci:v000010ECd00008139sv000011F6sd00008139bc02sc00i00

This works here. Sounds like another issue.
Check that you have a pattern matching this module in your modules.alias,
and if this is the case, fill in _another_ bug report. This one shall be
closed for good.
